Responsible for examining claims data, reviewing the facts of loss and liability assessment, and negotiating recoveries. Claims being examined require independent analysis, research to resolve damage issues, and filing arbitrations through Arbitration Forums.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Prepare and file intercompany arbitration independently
  • Establish action plan, gather data, and verify evidence to pursue recovery
  • Review subrogation reserves and open/adjust as necessary
  • Evaluate recovery alternatives by interpreting and applying relevant laws, regulations, and case law; make decisions on the best option to seek recovery (may include arbitration and/or litigation)
  • Make appropriate contacts to confirm or negotiate liability, damages, and recovery
  • Document all file activity and recovery information in file notes clearly outlining the basis for negotiations
  • Recognize and determine necessary correspondence based on regulatory compliance
  • Perform other projects and assignments as directed

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training, and work-related experience
  • Successful completion of the adjuster trainee program
  • Obtain/maintain appropriate licensing and education requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in claims handling
  • Solid understanding of claims policies and procedures
  • Ability to apply policies & procedures in resolving basic, less complex claims
  • Possess a general understanding of the repair and replacement of property damages, and other potential related exposures
  • Possess a basic understanding of insurance law as it relates to claims
  • Possess an understanding of basic elements of handling litigation claims
  • Possess basic knowledge of how to review and understand injury claims, and recognize when arbitration forums is appropriate
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the intercompany arbitration process
  • Possess working knowledge of systems and technology used within the department
  • Possess a solid level of problem-solving skills through detailed research and analysis

Desired Skills:

  • Possess professional verbal and written communication skills
  • 2+ years of experience in the insurance field and adjusting claims
  • Possess skills in customer service, resolving conflicts and empathizing with customers and adverse carriers
  • Possess organization and time management skills
  • Possess a high degree of initiative, mature judgment and independent discretion
  • Basic skills in negotiation
  • Possess a general understanding of the insurance industry, the organizational relationships of the company and the functions of other departments, such as Policy Operations and Marketing.
  • Ability to understand and demonstrate National General’s 4 Es (Engaged, Energized, Empowered, Execute)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
