What You’ll Do
- Underwrite at least three new loans per day while minimizing risk to the company
- Analyze borrower income, credit, assets, ratios, and collateral to confirm compliance with investor, agency, HUD, VA, USDA, or HFA guidelines
- Clear UTC conditions within 24 hours and prepare loans for risk committee review when needed
- Make counter offers when loans do not fit the original product guidelines
- Stay current on investor, agency, FHA, VA, USDA, and internal guideline updates and overlays
- Confirm all data points, documentation, and terms match the specific product and loan type
- Maintain Quality Control results within company standards
- Attend seminars and internal trainings to stay aligned with market trends and internal expectations
- Support sales teams by explaining conditions, scenarios, and underwriting decisions
- Help develop junior underwriters and processors through guidance and feedback
- Participate in departmental huddles and roundtables to share insights and trends
What You Need
- Three to five years of recent experience as a mortgage Underwriter
- Full working knowledge of the mortgage business and underwriting process
- Experience underwriting FHA, VA, USDA, and Agency loans
- Direct Endorsement (DE) required
- LAPP or SAR designation preferred
- Encompass LOS experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience
- Strong analytical skills, especially around credit and risk assessment
- Comfortable using financial and quantitative data to make decisions
- Excellent attention to detail and personal organization
- Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines without dropping quality
- Solid interpersonal skills and clear written communication
- Sound judgment and a collaborative mindset
