Responsibilities
The Senior Quality Coder is responsible for working collaboratively with various team members such as Coding Operations, Revenue Integrity, Provider Education, Billing and Accounts Receivable and Denials. This position coordinates with others as needed to ensure comprehensive and inclusive education, training and auditing as it relates to all professional and hospital coding processes. This position will mentor, instruct and/or train other Professional Coders in compliant coding standards focusing on various medical and surgical subspecialties (ICD-10 coding conventions, Official ICD-10 Reporting Guidelines, Coding Clinic, AMA CPT coding guidelines etc.). The Quality Senior Coder educates, trains and audits Coders based on their review, interpretation, and translation of provider medical diagnostic and procedural information documentation into appropriate codes following professional and hospital inpatient and/or outpatient claims and reporting requirements.

Qualifications
-Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred in a health care related field.
-Minimum of 5 years of professional coding experience and demonstrated knowledge of complex service lines.
Additional Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience with medical and/or surgical professional/physician coding rules for hospital outpatient, hospital inpatient and clinic and/or emergency department encounters.
- Experience with National Correct Coding Initiative edits (NCCI), National Coverage Determinations (NCD), Local Coverage Determinations (LCD), and coding guidelines for official coding and reporting, ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS, E/M, and modifiers.
- In-depth knowledge and experience of medical terminology, disease processes, patient health record content and the medical record coding process.
- Knowledge and experience with principles, methods, and techniques related to compliant healthcare billing.
- Knowledge and experience with coding and billing requirements for services furnished in teaching settings.
- Knowledge and experience with coding and billing requirements for provider-based (PBB) facilities and critical access hospital (CAH).
- Ability to work independently in a teleworking environment, to organize/prioritize work, exercise excellent communication skills, is attentive to detail, demonstrate follow through skills and maintain a positive attitude.
Licensure or Certification:
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or coding credential of a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS-P) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
