Two Chicks With A Side Hustle

At Yardzen, we believe people are at their best when they’re outside.

We have a simple promise: help people envision the outdoor spaces of their dreams, all online, and then match them with the right local contractors to bring their design to life. Since our launch in 2018, we’ve helped thousands of homeowners achieve their dream yards, make environmentally responsible decisions, boost their property values and get more out of their outdoor spaces.

We are disrupting the $200 billion outdoor renovation industry. By leveraging technology and creating an innovative online process, we offer a more straightforward, transparent, and delightful design and build experience for the modern homeowner. We’ve been recognized as a Forbes Best Startup Employer, Fast Company Most Innovative Company, named to Inc. Magazine’s Best Places to Work, and written about by Architectural Digest, The New York Times, Sunset Magazine, House Beautiful, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes. And we’re just getting started.

We’re looking for an exceedingly curious and empathetic  Senior Product Designer to join our team. At a time when thoughtful outdoor renovations can turn houses into sanctuaries and help people spend more quality time together outside, our next Senior Product Designer will play a key role in building on Yardzen’s record of innovation, continuing to reimagine the landscape design and build process.

The ideal candidate for us knows how to listen and seek inputs first and how to align product strategy with human interaction. They can do a lot with a little and move quickly to gain alignment and see business results.

In this position, they’ll design thoughtful platform experiences for both the modern home renovator and the builders who bring Yardzen designs to life, working to understand how the two can best interact through our managed marketplace.

As a company, we value design highly, so his is an extremely important cross-functional role that will have a meaningful impact on the Yardzen team.

  • First and foremost, be an advocate for our customers.
  • Bring strong opinions about what good UX means and be able to effectively communicate those opinions cross-functionally.
  • Lead product design, UX, and UI strategy and execution for the entire customer journey across all digital platforms.
  • Work quickly and collaboratively to align the product experience with broader business goals, growth strategy, and brand.
  • Create user flows, site maps, wireframes, visual designs, low and high-fidelity interactive prototypes for product changes and new functionality.
  • Create design systems, modules, elements, and components that are consistent throughout the customer journey.
  • Communicate project updates to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Partner with engineering to ensure that the final design files are “development ready” and can be implemented effectively in code.
  • Help define product requirements and specifications with the product team.
  • Drive engagement and conversion rate improvements.
  • Deeply understand prospective customer behavior, identify friction, and then ideate experiments.
  • Prioritize A/B tests to measure the impact of your design changes and then further optimize performance. Rinse and repeat.
  • Conduct usability studies to identify areas throughout the customer journey.
  • Test new product concepts and prototypes to validate assumptions and hypotheses.
  • Create experiences that are ADA and WCAG-compliant.

If you’re our next Senior Product Designer, you likely have:

  • 5+ years experience as a high-performing product designer, including  D2C and/or marketplace platforms. (Bonus points for experience with a high-consideration consumer process like home renovation.)
  • An appreciation for beautiful design and a strong brand aesthetic.
  • A track record of driving continual improvement via experimentation and A/B tests.
  • An ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced startup environment where resources are minimal, and expectations are high. A data-driven mindset and ability to monitor success through analytics and metrics.
  • Extensive experience communicating your design ideas via presentations, wireframes, click-through prototypes, design specifications, and command of Figma.
  • Expertise in user-centered design principles, as well as best practices for user testing and user research.
  • Enthusiasm about being the only Product Designer at Yardzen and find that start-up environments energize you.
