What You’ll Do
- Process medical release of information requests accurately and on time
- Retrieve, scan, and transmit patient medical records according to established procedures and quality standards
- Date stamp, review, and validate requests and authorizations to ensure they meet policy, legal, and HIPAA requirements
- Perform quality checks to confirm accuracy, confidentiality, and correct invoicing
- Handle incoming mail, faxes, and phone inquiries related to records, depending on client needs
- Use fax, copier, and scanning equipment and keep it in good working condition
- Provide respectful, attentive customer service to patients, clients, and internal teams
- Maintain a clean, organized, professional work area and follow site specific dress and conduct expectations
- Stay current on state laws and fee structures related to medical record releases
- Follow client policies, HIPAA rules, and company standards for privacy, security, and ethics
What You Need
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 2 years of experience in a medical records department or similar healthcare records environment is preferred
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to type around 50 words per minute
- Comfortable using fax machines, copiers, and scanners and willing to learn new tools and systems quickly
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Proven customer service skills and a professional, patient focused approach
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
- Able to multitask, follow established procedures, and work well both independently and as part of a team
