Offers writing assistance through the online assignment submission system virtual tutoring appointments via zoom, and other assistance, as appropriate. The Tutor Writing position is remote from any of the following states – Alabama, Arizona, California, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin.

IMPORTANT – this position works under 20 per week and must be available between the hours of 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Pacific Time to meet and provide services to our West Coast students.

The hiring range for this position is $30.00 per hour. Offers are determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: geographical location, knowledge, skills, years & depth of experience, and equity with internal team members.

TYPE OF SUPERVISION: 

Receive supervision from the Interim Associate Vice Chancellor, Instructional Innovation.

  • Supervision — indicates that the incumbent performs a variety of routine duties within established policies and procedures or by referral to the supervisor’s guidelines.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Determine and prepare appropriate resources to supplement 1-on-1 tutoring sessions including any specialized assistance to students whose primary language is not English as well as those with disabilities.

  • Review and offer feedback on essays submitted through the online submission system

  • Maintain and communicate records of student progress, as needed, including time tracking, challenges and successes.

  • Communicate with faculty as assigned/requested to provide comprehensive support for students in their respective programs.

  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relevant to the tutoring assignment
  • Master’s degree, preferred
  • Experience providing one on one tutoring support to students at the college level.
  • Experience reviewing and editing written work.
  • Expert knowledge of APA 7 style formatting.
  • Experience working in an online setting with students
  • Experience with computer-enhanced instruction 
  • Experience teaching and/or tutoring ESL and/or ELL students in an online setting, preferred
  • College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Certification, preferred

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Skilled in using virtual communication software such as ZOOM, Hangouts, Slack, email, etc.
  • Skilled in Google Suite tools for collaboration with team members and students
  • Excellent communication skills to provide clear and concise feedback to students, teachers, and staff
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to student needs

Special Requirements:

Working conditions are normal for an office environment.  Position may be required to work flexible hours particularly given campuses’ extended hours of operation and may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.  Applicants for this position are subject to a background check and a criminal history review.
