Major Responsibilities:

  • Consults with leaders and partners on communications needs to support the organization’s key initiatives. Provides advice and counsel on appropriate communication strategies and messaging to drive objectives.
  • Champions communication strategies that strengthen our image and reputation, builds brand advocacy and creates a stronger, more diverse and inclusive culture. Assesses the impact of potential communication actions and messaging for each project and makes a recommendation that is integrated with Advocate Health’s strategies and brand promise.
  • Assists in key initiative communications planning and implementation and crisis communication efforts.
  • Creates complex internal communication strategies and plans that outlines the communication goals/objectives, core messaging, key audiences, communication tools, timelines, and measurement/evaluation criteria. Proactively seeks out compelling stories and reporting opportunities to demonstrate our strategies at work.
  • Leads the efficient and effective execution of each phase of the communication plan. Writes and edits communication materials that are clear, engaging and persuasive in-line with project objectives and targeted to the appropriate audience. Ensures the timely dissemination of communication tactics.
  • Analyzes and evaluates communication effectiveness and enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of our communication efforts. Guides contracted vendors/agencies on the development of communications materials and activities in support of our strategies and initiatives
  • Develops and implements tracking mechanisms for communications. Assists in evaluating existing and potential communication mediums.
  • Works with team to align the broader digital strategy to help optimize employee engagement and evolve our culture and strategy.
  • Edits and proofreads all materials for accuracy, quality, and creativity. Maintains and strengthens the “voice” of Advocate Health’s brand in employee communication materials. Applies style guidelines to increase/maintain consistency throughout communication materials and ensures compliance with key messages and strategies.
  • Acts as a resource to other internal communications staff to provide guidance on project planning and messaging for more complex communications.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None Required.


Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or related field.


Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in progressively responsible experience in organizational communications that includes experiences in developing complex communications plans that support strategic initiatives, leading large communication projects, and writing communications to engage diverse audiences.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Excellent writing skills with an ability to simplify complex information and design compelling communications under tight deadlines that support change and drive engagement.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategically planning and implementing multi-dimensional communication programs targeting multiple audiences.
  • Demonstrated expertise in message management, assessing communication opportunities, channel development and employing the appropriate communication vehicles.
  • Proven project management, problem-solving and decision-making ability. Strong critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style format, social media and digital information and writing for web applications.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, reports and other research.
  • Ability to measure effectiveness, quality, and return on investment of key internal communication tools and tactics.
  • Knowledge of communication strategies best practices.
  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization. Ability to work in a complex corporate environment.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Exposed to a normal office environment.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • This position may require travel so will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
