What You’ll Do
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims to insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid
- Generate and send patient invoices for services rendered, and follow up on outstanding balances
- Verify insurance coverage and eligibility, ensuring authorizations/referrals are obtained before services are rendered
- Assign proper medical codes (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) to diagnoses and procedures
- Post and reconcile payments from insurance and patients in the billing system
- Investigate and appeal denials/rejections, identifying root causes to prevent repeat issues
- Communicate with patients about billing questions, payment plans, and financial assistance options
- Maintain accurate records of claims, payments, and correspondence
- Follow HIPAA and billing compliance guidelines to protect patient information
What You Need
- High school diploma or equivalent (medical billing/coding certification preferred)
- 1+ year of medical billing experience (healthcare setting preferred)
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, billing software (Epic, Cerner, or similar), and claims processes
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to multitask
- Professional communication skills with patients, providers, and insurance reps
- Problem-solving ability to resolve billing issues and improve processes
- Team-oriented approach and willingness to collaborate across departments
