The Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) plays a pivotal role in our not-for-profit organization by supporting financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis activities. This position requires expertise in Workday Adaptive Planning software, as well as a strong understanding of financial management within the context of not-for-profit operations. Position will report to the Senior Director of FP&A and will interact with the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, Finance Area Leaders (Sr. Directors), Finance Region Directors along with various constituents across the Association.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning and Budgeting:

    • Assist / Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with the broader Finance organization and with department leaders.
    • Develop comprehensive financial models and forecasts to guide organizational planning and decision-making. Built as stand-alone or within Workday Adaptive Planning.
    • Monitor budget performance and variance analysis, providing insights to ensure financial goals are met.
    • Administer / implement Adaptive Planning system changes required to improve the system flow, budget process, becoming the Association expert on Workday Adaptive Planning.

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

    • Analyze financial data and performance metrics to identify trends and then seek opportunities for cost savings, revenue growth, and efficiency improvements.
    • Prepare and maintain driver-based financial and operating models to support decision-making and long-term planning.
    • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed to support strategic initiatives and decision-making.

Adaptive Planning Software Management:

    • Serve as the primary administrator and expert user of Adaptive Planning software. Implement new functionality, which is part of Workday 2X per year releases where applicable.
    • Configure and maintain the software to support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting requirements. Administer day-to-day management and implement enhancements of Adaptive Insights financial planning tool.
    • Train and support staff across the organization in the use of Adaptive Planning, ensuring accurate and efficient financial planning processes.

Financial Strategy and Leadership:

  1. Collaborate with Finance senior management and functional leaders (when necessary) to develop financial strategies aligned with organizational goals and mission.
  2. Provide recommendations based on financial analysis to optimize resource allocation and maximize financial sustainability.
  3. Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices in not-for-profit financial management. Provide analysis using industry benchmarks or comparisons to other voluntary health organizations.
  4. Identify opportunities to streamline and improve financial planning and analysis processes, leveraging technology and best practices to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with Accounting, Grants Management, and Program teams to ensure alignment between financial planning and organizational operations.
    • Foster a collaborative and communicative environment to enhance financial literacy and understanding across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field
  • Workday and Adaptive Insights experience required; Advanced Excel skills required
  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in financial planning and analysis, preferably within the not-for-profit sector.
  • Understanding of accounting principles or US GAAP is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to distill these complex analysis into insights that drive action
  • Ability to dig into and understand the details, while having the skills to summarize the data at a high level to craft the story / message
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem solving and decision-making

Position Location: Chicago, IL (hybrid) or remote

Full time based on 37.5 hours minimum

Position Grade: 509 (estimated salary range $90,000-$112,000)
