- Location: Fully remote within the United States
- Status: Full-time
- Work Style: Independent, production-based coding from home
- Environment: 6–8 hours a day working in EMR and billing systems, meeting clear productivity and quality goals
What You’ll Do
- Code inpatient facility encounters for a large hospital system, including Level 1 trauma cases
- Provide CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding across at least four specialties for one or more facilities or clients
- Review medical records and abstract all necessary clinical details for correct sequencing and code assignment
- Recognize critical care cases by patient acuity and capture all supported procedures and services
- Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to the highest level of specificity and accurately assign ICD-10-PCS procedure codes
- Interpret and apply official coding guidelines, payer rules, and facility policies for accurate, compliant code selection
- Understand how documentation impacts code assignment, DRGs, and reimbursement, and flag gaps when needed
- Maintain required quality, productivity, and accuracy standards (95%+ for both accuracy and quality)
- Communicate with clients and internal leaders in a professional, service-focused way
- Participate in company-provided training and education, with potential opportunities to help with auditing
What You Need
- Active coding credential from AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P)
- CCS strongly preferred, especially for Level 1 trauma inpatient work
- Minimum 2 years of inpatient or multi-specialty facility coding experience
- Advanced working knowledge of EMR and billing systems
- Current coding references (CPT and ICD-10-CM at minimum)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook, including:
- Opening and updating spreadsheets, using basic formulas, and creating simple pivot tables
- Managing email, scheduling and attending online meetings
- Ability to work independently from home and consistently hit productivity and accuracy targets
- Strong attention to detail, decision-making skills, and clear professional communication (written and verbal)
