Duo (Member Advocate)
Who You Are
Your friends call you a giver. You love helping others, especially those who need it the most. You enjoy meeting new people and forming meaningful relationships. People inherently trust you because of your warmth, empathy, and ability to listen without judgment.
You enjoy work, but it doesn’t dominate your life. You have other responsibilities and hobbies that are also important to you, so you seek opportunities (either paid or volunteer) that offer flexibility while still providing a fulfilling experience. You consider yourself tech-savvy, or you aspire to be.
You have extensive experience taking care of people, perhaps as a parent, caregiver, volunteer or camp counselor. You’ve worked with individuals who come from diverse backgrounds and life experiences and have enjoyed learning from them.
What You Do as a Duo
As a Duo, your overarching goal is to build and maintain trusting relationships with your assigned members and their families. More specifically, you:
Provide much-needed companionship to your members in person and/or via regular phone calls
Use the training and tools we provide you to connect your members to resources they really need to help them live happy, healthy, independent lives – this includes everything ranging from free meal programs to discounted transportation options and much, much more
Support your members in strengthening their own self-advocacy, goal-setting, and personal growth
Communicate regularly with your members’ caregivers and doctors, so that everyone is working together in the best interest of each member
Regularly share feedback, learnings and ideas with your Duos teammates to help us continually improve the way we serve our members
Why Being a Duo is Really Special
You value being a Duo, because:
You get enjoyment out of helping others: at the same time you’re helping others, you find the experience beneficial for your own emotional well-being
It works with your life: you have the flexibility to work when and where you want
You enjoy being part of a team: you’re surrounded by and get to learn from others who share your values and passion for service
You have a new source of income: while money isn’t your primary motivation for doing this type of work, you consider it a win-win to earn some cash while doing something that makes you happy
