What You’ll Do
- Meet 1:1 with students (starting as early as 9th grade) to assess academics, extracurriculars, goals, and fit
- Build and maintain a customized admissions strategy for each student
- Communicate consistently with students and parents to keep goals, timelines, and progress aligned
- Research and create balanced college lists (reach/target/likely) based on fit and family budget
- Coach essay development: brainstorm, outline, revise personal statements and supplements
- Manage application timelines and accuracy; help students present strengths clearly
- Advise on course selection, SAT/ACT strategy, and extracurricular choices that strengthen the profile
- Review and improve resumes
- Run mock interviews and give actionable feedback
- Stay current on admissions trends and changing requirements
- Potential add-ons: webinars; curriculum/content development; counselor training; product strategy support
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years professional college counseling experience (company or independent)
- Deep knowledge of admissions + financial aid + scholarships + academic planning
- Strong facilitation/presentation skills for families and students
- Exceptional writing and editing skills (essays are a core deliverable)
- High organization: manage multiple students at once and track each application cycle
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
- Master’s in counseling/higher ed (or similar)
- Track record helping students into highly selective schools
- Experience working in admissions (especially at selective institutions)
