- Regular virtual meetings with CDI staff, facility leaders, and executive stakeholders
- Must deliver on operational metrics, performance reviews, and CDI program oversight
Responsibilities
- Oversee Clinical Documentation Improvement operations across assigned facilities
- Hire, train, manage, and develop CDI staff, supervisors, and leads
- Monitor daily CDI activities and ensure performance metrics are met
- Build and maintain goals in alignment with national objectives
- Improve Case Mix Index (CMI) and documentation completeness
- Develop policies, procedures, education materials, and communication plans
- Educate physicians, nursing staff, and facility leadership on documentation best practices
- Identify trends using regional data, audits, and compliance reviews
- Implement new CDI programs and ensure adherence to national standards
- Collaborate with Coding teams to resolve documentation gaps and query processes
- Track and report CDI analytics for leadership decision-making
- Lead ICD-10 education and serve as an internal subject matter expert
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of CDI experience
- Preferred: Nursing degree (BSN) or Health Information Management credentials (RHIT/RHIA)
- Preferred: Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
- Strong understanding of Medicare Part A and basic Part B
- Expertise in MS-DRG classification, documentation standards, and reimbursement structures
- Skilled in evaluating documentation for clarity, specificity, and compliance
- Strong critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and report writing
- Ability to coach, motivate, and develop CDI talent
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, clinical documentation systems, and CDI audit tools
- Ability to work independently in a virtual environment
Preferred Certifications
- RN, RHIT, RHIA, CCS
- CCDS or CDIP
