This position function as the State WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator, coordinating the statewide breastfeeding program and providing leadership in the development of breastfeeding as a major WIC Program emphasis. Works in coordination with the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator to comply with all FNS USDA requirements.   Responsibilities include developing and evaluating: budgets, policies and procedures, data system functions and reports, adapting research to resolve problems, training, technical assistance and expert guidance for local agency staff and outside collaborations.  The position hires, manages, directs and monitors the activities of statewide contractors who are responsible for technical lactation services to WIC and its collaborators.  The position consults with other program areas (e.g., maternal, infant and child nutrition & health issues, chronic disease and obesity prevention) related to their development of policy, training and outside collaborations.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a master’s degree in human nutrition, public health, or institution administration.

Experience

Four years of professional (post-master’s) experience equivalent to a Nutrition/Food Management Consultant, including two years equivalent to a Nutrition/Food Management Consultant P11, or one year equivalent to a Nutrition/Food Management Consultant 12.

Additional Requirements and Information

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 320 S. Walnut, Lansing, MI.  but it is anticipated that the position will work remotely.  Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

Employees will be provided computers to perform state work.  Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
  • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
