Compensation: $22-23/hr. You are eligible to a Short-Term Incentive Plan with the target at 3% of your annual earnings, terms and conditions apply.
Hours are 8:30am-5:00pm PST (schedule may vary based on business needs)
Billing Support Representative I:
The Billing Support Representative’s role is to be the primary contact for billing questions received from patients, clients, and payors. In this role, Billing Support Representative provides client and patient support for billing-related issues, including but not limited to communicating estimated out-of-pocket costs, offering assistance options, providing billing status, quoting pricing, collecting payments and reviewing patient correspondence. The Billing Support Representative is an entry-level position for individuals who are new to the industry and are still mastering the required skills and responsibilities with supervisory support.
Essential Functions:
- Calls patient to review the estimated out of pocket costs based on each patients genetic testing benefits to allow the patient to make informed decisions of potential financial liabilities
- Reviews outgoing statement to ensure that patient is receiving accurate correspondence regarding the owed amount and qualifies patients for any financial assistance based on each patients’ unique situation as defined by the patient billing policy as needed
- Place calls to clients or patients as requested to discuss out of pocket costs for genetic testing
- Documents all relevant actions in the patients case notes regarding patient decision (i.e. continue testing, cancel test or bill hold)
- Assigns proper work queue to initiate prior authorization or directs case to appropriate team to work
- Meets established departmental standards for timely call follow up with patients within 48 hours of sample receipt
- Responds to patients via phone, email, or text using patients preferred method of communication as indicated on the Test Requisition Form
- Assists with incoming phone calls from patents and clients, providing one-call resolution for all billing-related issues
- Reviews, researches, and resolves inbound inquiries and complaints through a tickets system
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of CPT codes, medical terminology, insurance plans, ICD 10 codes
- Must have ability to adapt to a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Must have good computer skills
- Must understand the different payer plans and good understanding of A/R
- Must have excellent communication skills and a positive, caring attitude over the phone when talking to patients
- Must demonstrate customer service skills to work effectively with patients, referring providers, governmental agencies
- Must have the ability to use independent judgment and show discretion in working with highly confidential HIPAA information
- Must have basic math skills in order to calculate out of pocket amounts
- Must have understanding of basic billing and claims processing
- 1+ years’ experience as a customer service agent or similar background
Preferred:
- 2+ years’ experience in a clinical laboratory preferred, especially genetic testing

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
