Schedule
- 100% remote, work from home anywhere in the United States
- Full-time position on a Monday–Friday schedule
- Standard business hours, with the ability to shift priorities when urgent audits or record requests come in
- Daily collaboration with internal teams and clients via email, phone, and online tools
What You’ll Do
- Perform daily internal reviews of ambulance claims to ensure accurate, compliant billing in line with federal and payer regulations.
- Examine accounts regularly, recognize potential system or billing errors, and report issues for correction.
- Randomly select and review claims as part of ongoing internal compliance audits.
- Fulfill external medical record requests, including gathering, organizing, and securely transmitting documentation.
- Partner with clients on their compliance needs, including initiating third-party audits or documentation reviews based on contract requirements.
- Review and, when appropriate, dispute third-party audit findings to protect clients and ensure accurate interpretations of regulations.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA requirements, payer rules, and timely filing limits.
- Manage documentation workflows, including combining, inserting, and saving PDF files and e-faxing records as needed.
- Shift focus quickly when new projects or compliance priorities arise while still meeting deadlines.
What You Need
- Minimum of 2 years of EMS billing experience.
- Solid knowledge of ambulance coding and the ability to recognize and define all levels of service.
- Strong understanding of modifiers specific to ambulance claims.
- Working knowledge of CMS Ambulance regulations (Chapter 10), including service levels, emergency vs. non-emergency transports, and medical necessity requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret EMS run records, including personnel types, treatments, procedures, abbreviations, and terminology—and spot missing or insufficient documentation.
- Familiarity with dispatch and EMS protocols.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Comfort responding to record requests and handling digital documentation (PDF management, e-faxing, etc.).
- A team player mindset with the ability to work independently, multitask, and consistently meet deadlines.
