What You’ll Do
- Verify patient insurance eligibility, coverage, and benefits before services are rendered.
- Confirm copays, deductibles, and coinsurance so patient responsibility is clear.
- Obtain prior authorizations for services, procedures, or medications according to payer rules.
- Accurately document benefit verification and authorization details in the system.
- Communicate authorization status and requirements to providers and internal teams.
- Monitor and track pending authorizations and follow up to prevent delays.
- Identify patterns in benefit or authorization issues and escalate when needed.
- Support denial prevention by making sure payer requirements are met up front.
What You Need
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One to two years of experience in benefits verification, medical insurance, or prior authorization.
- Working knowledge of commercial and government payers, insurance policies, and healthcare terminology.
- Experience with revenue cycle systems and EMRs.
- Familiarity with payer authorization portals and workflows.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow through.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and comfort working across patients, providers, and payers.
- Understanding of denial management and basic appeal processes.
