What You’ll Do
- Verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits before services are rendered
- Determine patient responsibility for copays, deductibles, and coinsurance
- Obtain prior authorizations from commercial and government payers for services, procedures, or medications
- Accurately document all benefit and authorization details in the system
- Work closely with scheduling, billing, and AR teams to keep workflows accurate and smooth
- Communicate clearly with providers and payers on authorization status and requirements
- Monitor and track pending authorizations, following up to prevent delays in care or payment
- Identify trends in benefit or authorization issues and escalate them to leadership when needed
- Support denial prevention by making sure payer requirements are met upfront
What You Need
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 1–2 years of experience in benefits verification, medical insurance, or prior authorization
- Strong knowledge of commercial and government payers, insurance policies, and healthcare terminology
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Clear, professional communication skills across patients, providers, and payers
- Experience with RCM systems and EMRs
- Comfort using payer portals and understanding authorization workflows
- Familiarity with denial management and appeals processes
- A customer success oriented mindset and problem solving attitude
