Responsibilities
• Perform complex concurrent and retrospective inpatient coding audits
• Validate ICD-10-CM, PCS, CPT, and HCPCS code assignment using AHA, CMS, AMA, AHIMA, Coding Clinic, and CPT Assistant guidance
• Analyze audit findings and identify root causes of errors
• Prepare audit reports with clear references and client-ready summaries
• Conduct second-level reviews to ensure compliance and accurate code assignment
• Research and respond to questions regarding compliance, coding, and denials
• Develop and deliver educational materials for coders and providers
• Meet productivity expectations, including 80 percent or higher billable hours when work is available
• Maintain 95 percent accuracy threshold on all audit work
• Complete internal QA of work products before submission
• Track time and deliverables accurately and on schedule
• Communicate professionally with clients and internal teams
• Maintain credentials and stay current with industry updates
• Other duties assigned by leadership
Requirements
• Active credential from AHIMA or AAPC
• Minimum 5 years of inpatient coding and/or auditing experience in an acute care setting
• Strong knowledge of MS-DRG, PCS review, POA indicators, query opportunities, and diagnosis assignment
• Experience developing and presenting coder and provider education
• Proficient with EMR systems, telecommuting workflows, and Microsoft Office
• Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills
• Ability to manage multiple clients and projects independently
• High attention to detail with consistent accuracy
