What You’ll Do
Customer Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of accounts to ensure timely invoice collection in a complex, multi-party environment
- Build strong relationships and serve as the main point of contact for billing and receivables questions
- Resolve billing discrepancies and delinquent payer issues using sound business judgment
- Investigate root causes of payment problems and drive cross-functional solutions
- Create and share reporting on delinquent accounts and collection performance (DSO, average days to collect, etc.)
- Handle escalations and at-risk accounts, including negotiating payment plans, settlements, or recommending suspension/cancellation of services
- Train and mentor accounts receivable staff
Operational and Accounting Controls
- Document and maintain internal control procedures for invoicing and collections, and keep evidence that controls are operating as designed
- Help develop the allowance for doubtful accounts aligned with ASC 326 (credit losses)
- Support audits by providing detailed account analysis, histories, and resolution paths
- Maintain AR procedure documentation and contribute to process improvements
Financial Analysis and Strategy
- Analyze cash application and customer payment trends to identify improvements that optimize cash flow
- Present analysis on high-risk accounts to leadership with recommendations that reduce loss while preserving relationships
What You Need
- 4+ years in a high-volume, multi-party accounts receivable role
- Associate’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Accounting or Business Administration
- Proven experience with invoicing, collections, cash applications, reconciliations, and internal control documentation (SOX/SEC framework)
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills with customers and related third parties
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and make strong judgment calls under pressure
- Analytical, root-cause problem solving skills with a track record of implementing fixes
- Strong communication skills with a customer-first approach
- Expert AR knowledge plus solid accounting policy understanding
- Strong MS Office skills (Intacct or other ERP experience is a plus)
