Schedule

  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Remote (candidates in the Washington, D.C. area may occasionally need to go onsite for projects)

Salary
$50,000 – $55,000 annually, depending on experience and location

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruitment processes, job postings, and manager support throughout hiring steps
  • Conduct onboarding and offboarding (I-9s, E-Verify, benefits, check-ins, exit processes)
  • Serve as point of contact for benefits questions and assist with enrollments and open enrollment periods
  • Maintain and audit HR files, records, and documentation, ensuring confidentiality and compliance
  • Provide HRIS support and troubleshoot employee issues to maintain accurate data
  • Support monthly benefits bill reconciliations and employment verifications
  • Help coordinate staff training, development sessions, and organizational compliance efforts
  • Assist with HR projects such as performance reviews and employee engagement initiatives
  • Prepare reports, policies, and organizational documents (EEO-1, org charts, employee handbook, etc.)
  • Act as an ambassador of organizational culture, ensuring staff feel respected, supported, and valued

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to Food & Water Watch’s core values of justice, equity, and human dignity
  • 2 years of HR experience preferred; associate’s degree in HR a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with tact and professionalism
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems (or ability to learn quickly)
  • Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with payroll and multi-state HR practices
  • Experience working with unions
  • Knowledge of Slack, Google Docs, and related tools
