Schedule
- Full-time, non-exempt position
- Remote (candidates in the Washington, D.C. area may occasionally need to go onsite for projects)
Salary
$50,000 – $55,000 annually, depending on experience and location
Responsibilities
- Assist with recruitment processes, job postings, and manager support throughout hiring steps
- Conduct onboarding and offboarding (I-9s, E-Verify, benefits, check-ins, exit processes)
- Serve as point of contact for benefits questions and assist with enrollments and open enrollment periods
- Maintain and audit HR files, records, and documentation, ensuring confidentiality and compliance
- Provide HRIS support and troubleshoot employee issues to maintain accurate data
- Support monthly benefits bill reconciliations and employment verifications
- Help coordinate staff training, development sessions, and organizational compliance efforts
- Assist with HR projects such as performance reviews and employee engagement initiatives
- Prepare reports, policies, and organizational documents (EEO-1, org charts, employee handbook, etc.)
- Act as an ambassador of organizational culture, ensuring staff feel respected, supported, and valued
Requirements
- Strong commitment to Food & Water Watch’s core values of justice, equity, and human dignity
- 2 years of HR experience preferred; associate’s degree in HR a plus
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential matters with tact and professionalism
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems (or ability to learn quickly)
- Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with payroll and multi-state HR practices
- Experience working with unions
- Knowledge of Slack, Google Docs, and related tools
