Responsibilities
- Oversee billing, collections, follow-up, and compliance with third-party payer regulations.
- Ensure accounts are billed accurately and timely through proactive oversight and direction.
- Mentor and provide operational guidance to Billing Coordinators.
- Maintain current knowledge of hospital billing systems, payer systems, and federal/state reimbursement policies.
- Monitor and report on denials; provide education to reduce denials across departments.
- Review statistical reports to identify trends, deficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
- Serve as primary liaison with facility management; escalate unresolved billing or claims issues.
- Lead departmental budget planning, forecasting, and corrective actions for variances.
- Ensure employee scheduling, time/attendance, and annual reviews are completed accurately.
- Oversee preparation of monthly invoices; ensure contract compliance.
- Exhibit strong leadership, judgment, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and industry best practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 5 years of hospital billing experience.
- Strong working knowledge of insurance regulations, coding, and automated billing.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational, time management, and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to resolve issues independently and follow through effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
- 2+ years of Medicare hospital billing experience.
