WVU Medicine is hiring a Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C) to manage and maintain high-quality cancer registry data for reportable tumors and malignancies. This part-time, remote role plays a key part in driving research, supporting compliance, and contributing to national cancer reporting standards. You’ll handle case identification, abstracting, staging, follow-up, and analysis—working across EMRs and cancer registry systems.

📋 What You’ll Own
• Identify and log all reportable tumors using hospital/state/CoC standards
• Abstract cancer cases using EMRs, pathology, lab, surgical, and genetic data
• Assign accurate coding and staging (AJCC TNM, STORE, SEER, ICD-O)
• Maintain 90%+ quality and meet productivity benchmarks
• Monitor and update patient outcomes, including recurrence and survival
• Conduct quality reviews, peer audits, and “not reportable” audits
• Track CoC quality metrics and document compliance
• Generate statistical and research reports on trends, volumes, treatment outcomes
• Support accreditation efforts, cancer committee meetings, and special studies
• Participate in team meetings, training, and continuing education for ODS-C renewal


🎯 Must-Have Traits
• Associate degree
• Active ODS-C (Oncology Data Specialist – Certified) credential with CE compliance
• Strong understanding of cancer staging, registry tools, treatment modalities, and anatomy/physiology
• Detail-oriented and organized with excellent time management
• Able to prioritize and work independently under deadlines
• Strong written/verbal communication and EMR navigation skills
• Experience with AJCC, SEER, NCCN, STORE, SSDI, and other standard setters
• Experience conducting data quality reviews
