WVU Medicine is hiring a Professional Coding Specialist II to ensure accurate and compliant coding across inpatient and outpatient records. This role is vital to optimizing reimbursement, ensuring coding integrity, and supporting provider documentation. You’ll review medical records, assign correct CPT and ICD-10 codes, and support education and audit initiatives—all from a fully remote position.

📋 What You’ll Own
• Accurately assign CPT, ICD-10, and modifier codes based on provider documentation
• Review inpatient and outpatient records to ensure compliance and reimbursement accuracy
• Maintain daily workflow of coding, charge capture, and data abstraction
• Audit provider documentation and deliver education on coding accuracy
• Collaborate with physicians and offices to resolve discrepancies or missing information
• Support billing and claims teams in resolving problem accounts
• Track and report coding metrics, ensuring productivity and quality standards
• Participate in training, workshops, and in-services to stay current with coding updates


🎯 Must-Have Traits
• High School Diploma or GED
• Associates degree in Health Information Management with one of the following credentials:
– RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)
– RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator)
– CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
– CCS-P or CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
• 2+ years of medical coding experience (physician office coding preferred)
• Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
