🧾 About the Role
Cogent Workforce Solutions (CWS Health) is hiring a Medical Coder for a full-time, fully remote contract role lasting approximately 9 months. You’ll play a key role in abstracting and validating ICD-9/10-CM codes across hospital and physician medical records, supporting compliance and accuracy for both government and commercial clients.

📋 What You’ll Own
• Analyze and validate protected health information (PHI) for coding accuracy
• Review medical records and assign ICD-9/10-CM codes per AMA guidelines
• Participate in intake processes for medical records
• Collaborate with Team Leads to resolve discrepancies
• Maintain coding certifications and meet continuing education requirements
• Apply updated coding rules and practices as issued by the AMA
• Complete additional duties as needed to support the coding team
🎯 Must-Have Traits
• 2+ years of ICD-9 medical coding experience (hospital & physician)
• 1–2 years of ICD-10 medical coding experience
• Deep understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathology
• Able to work independently and uphold AHIMA Code of Ethics
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Must pass an online coder assessment to proceed

• RHIA – Registered Health Information Administrator
• RHIT – Registered Health Information Technician
• CCS – Certified Coding Specialist
• CCS-P – Certified Coding Specialist, Physician-Based
• CIC – Certified Inpatient Coder
• COC – Certified Outpatient Coder
• CRC – Certified Risk Adjustment Coder
• CPC – Certified Professional Coder
