🧾 About the Role
GovCIO is seeking a Desktop Systems Engineer 2 to support the NLM (National Library of Medicine) contract. In this fully remote role, you’ll serve as a technical specialist focused on troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing desktop systems and small networks. You’ll be responsible for ensuring performance, security, and reliability across user endpoints—playing a vital role in supporting a mission-driven federal IT environment.

📋 What You’ll Own
• Maintain, repair, upgrade, and configure desktops, systems, and software
• Troubleshoot complex issues in Microsoft and Apple environments
• Ensure performance tuning, data integrity, and recovery practices
• Deploy COTS hardware/software in an inter-networked environment
• Support Service Desk and collaborate with network and IT staff
• Assist in evaluating new technology, planning deployments, and reviewing procedures
• Document, enforce, and maintain desktop standards and best practices
🎯 Must-Have Traits
• Bachelor’s degree + 5–8 years of relevant experience (or commensurate experience)
• A+ Certification (Required)*
• MCSA and MCP/MTA (Required)* — MCSE accepted in place of MCSA
• Experience with Microsoft and Apple environments
• Familiarity with industry-standard COTS hardware/software used at NLM
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and experience with users of all levels
