Schedule
- Full-time, fully remote
- Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm EST
- Pay: $58,000–$60,000+ annually
Responsibilities
- Follow up on outstanding insurance and patient balances via payer portals, calls, and correspondence
- Investigate unpaid or denied claims, resolve issues, and ensure timely reimbursement
- Review EOBs/ERAs to determine corrective action on denied or underpaid claims
- Submit appeals, corrected claims, and documentation per payer guidelines and deadlines
- Communicate with payers regarding medical necessity, authorization, bundling, and eligibility rejections
- Verify and update patient insurance information as needed
- Identify underpaid claims and dispute with payers in collaboration with contract management
- Accurately document all activities in workflow management systems
- Monitor worklists/aging reports to ensure prompt resolution of accounts
- Collaborate with coding, billing, patient access, compliance, and internal teams to resolve denial root causes
- Support onboarding and training of new team members
- Work within CMS, Medicaid, and commercial payer compliance guidelines
- Recommend process improvements based on denial trends and payer behavior
Requirements
- 3+ years medical billing or insurance follow-up experience (physician or healthcare setting preferred)
- Strong knowledge of CMS-1500, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, EOBs, and payer-specific rules
- Rural Health Clinic experience preferred
- Proficient with Epic, Cerner, Meditech, SSI, IDX/Centricity, Athena, or Keane
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred
- Preferred certifications: CRCR (HFMA), CPB (AAPC), CMRS (AMBA)
- Adherence to HIPAA and regulatory compliance
