The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Religious Coordinator at Clallam Bay Corrections Center. Clallam Bay Corrections Center is a 900-bed male facility located on the point of the Olympic Peninsula.  It is 50 miles west of Port Angeles and looks out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca at Vancouver Island.  This facility houses medium and close custody incarcerated individuals. CBCC also operates a Restricted Housing Unit.

Duties

Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent, this position is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the religious/spiritual programs, ceremonies, and services at CBCC. 

Duties of the Religious Coordinator include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain knowledge of the Federal/State laws and departmental policies governing the delivery of religious programs for the incarcerated individuals. 
  • Assist with the development and management of a religious programs budget for the institution.
  • Conduct large religious services for offender population if needed.
  • Provide a religious program that takes into account the diverse religious/spiritual needs represented in the Incarcerated Individual population.
  • Develop and conduct religious orientation for all newly arrived incarcerated individuals, explaining all religious programs, scheduling, property, diets, chapel and library use, counseling and special events. 
  • Manage and teach the religious portion of the annual volunteer orientation class.
  • Assist with the approval and training of community volunteers.
  • Oversee, monitor, and approve the work and schedules of contract chaplains and volunteers.
  • Work in conjunction with property sergeant to disburse religious property items.
  • Maintain a religious library with materials to be provided by religious organizations and denominations listed in the Handbook of Religious Beliefs and Practices and other approved organizations. 
  • Process religious diets per DOC Policy 450.200 – Religious Programs.
  • Recruit, hire, train and when necessary, discipline/terminate incarcerated workers.
  • Coordinate with grievance office on matters of religious dispute regarding diets, property, programs and services. 
  • Coordinate the procedure for Incarcerated Individual marriages per policy. 

Qualifications

Required QualificationsAll Religious Coordinators must meet minimum qualifications as defined in RCW 72.01.210 [4-4512] (2):

(2) Institutional Religious Coordinators appointed by the Department of Corrections under this section shall have qualifications necessary to function as Religious Program Coordinators for all faith groups represented within the department. Every Religious Coordinator so appointed or contracted with shall have qualifications consistent with community standards of the given faith group to which the Religious Coordinator belongs and shall not be required to violate the tenets of his or her faith when acting in an ecclesiastical role.
