Avantpage
Avantpage, a California-based translation and localization company, is seeking a detail-oriented US-based Proofer for translated documents to join our external Provider network. The Proofer will evaluate the files to ensure that:
- the translated document matches the format of the source document
- the translated document is complete, correct, and error-free
- the translated document follows client style guide requirements
While proofing mainly focuses on layout and design elements, bilingual proofers (in English and in a given target language) should also be able to identify linguistic errors by reading the translated content as they proof for design issues.
Responsibilities:
- Proof translated documents to ensure proper formatting, layout, and design
- Note and report any errors in the translations
- Ensure adherence to client style guides
- Comply with all requirements for handling sensitive and confidential information
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with the proofing team, project managers, designers, and other team members
- Handle tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Work on a flexible freelance basis, according to your own availability
Requirements:
- Proficient knowledge of English and at least one other language, including reading, writing, and grammar fluency
- Candidates with fluency in Simplified and/or Traditional Chinese will take precedence in the recruitment process
- Candidates with proven translation skills will take precedence in the recruitment process
- Close attention to detail, both in language and visual design
- Proficient in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to read, understand, and follow a style guide and ensure that a text meets all style requirements
- Previous experience with proofing or design is helpful, though not required
