Job Description:

Compensation Rate: $51,400- $64,400 per year; DOE

This is a remote position supporting the work across Northern Arizona as part of the Arizona Water for All Network (AW4A), led by a partnership between Arizona State University (ASU), Northern Arizona University (NAU), and the University of Arizona (UofA). The position will be working with the Water, Society, and Policy Lab at NAU. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-institutional team working to successfully increase participation and empowerment in water-insecure communities across Arizona.

The ideal candidate has experience in community outreach and partnership building, is an effective team player, and is a strong individual contributor who can develop rapport with partners from different cultural backgrounds. The ideal candidate must work well in a flexible environment, show initiative and creativity in program design and problem-solving, be organized and capable of meeting priority deadlines, and have strong written and verbal communication skills.

Dates: 12-month position, with possible extension.

Essential Duties:

  • Leading the development of partnerships with other organizations and agencies for the establishment of the AW4A network. 
  • Establishing and maintaining outreach and coordination between the AW4A team at ASU and NAU, and diverse organizations, agencies, and community groups across Northern Arizona. 
  • Leading community engagement efforts by coordinating and facilitating necessary one-on-one and group meetings (in person and virtually). 
  • Developing rapport and credibility with contacts at water-related government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community-based organizations relevant to research activities.
  • Maintaining direct contact with personnel of various outside organizations and university departments associated with scheduled functions/programs.
  • Assisting the team in research activities to identify existing related efforts and current water priorities across urban, rural, and Indigenous communities in Northern Arizona. 
  • Representing AW4A during on-site visits while performing data collection and outreach activities; may serve as the direct contact with participating agencies/organizations with whom data collection efforts would require assistance.
  • Assisting with preparing, producing, and presenting written reports that may include: the progress of the study, data summaries, literature reviews, bibliographies, or other study-related updates and/or evaluations.
  • May also prepare report briefs for a given project, as needed. May perform or assist in delivering presentations and writing articles and reports.
  • Provide assistance and information to faculty, staff, and outside organizations regarding function/program.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Must be located within 50 miles of Flagstaff, Arizona, and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of academic research environment and principles, practices and techniques of research design, methodologies, and statistics.
  • Ability to apply advanced knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of social science research.
  • Experience working in Arizona, tribal, and western water policy issues.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural settings and with multiple stakeholders.
  • Evidence of effective presentation and written and verbal communication skills with multiple audiences and in cross-cultural settings.
  • Skill in preparing and summarizing research results and information for management reports and policy decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Experience working effectively and respectfully in a team environment with demonstrated ability to create and sustain positive working relationships internal and external to the organization.
  • Proven relationship-building skills to support collaboration and partnership activities.
  • Familiarity with project management and task-tracking tools.
  • Knowledge of state and federal government agencies related to research funding process and regulations
  • Knowledge of grant writing and grant application procedures.
  • Knowledge of statistical and financial tools.

Working Environment:

  • Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.  
  • Constantly detects and operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.   
  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.  Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • May require a flexible working schedule to accommodate projects and initiatives.
  • May require travel to meetings and conferences in and out of state.
  • May drive University vehicle and/or cart to campus site.

Flexible work options

Alternative work schedules can include four, 10-hour workdays in a workweek; a nine-day, 80-hour schedule over two workweeks for exempt employees only; and staggered start and stop times.

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Driving Requirement:This position may require driving. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.
