Mercury cares a lot about its people, and this manifests most clearly through actions like running payroll correctly and providing thoughtful benefits. We’re growing pretty fast, and core operations are inevitably getting more complex. We’re looking to bring someone onto the ops team who can scale, simplify, and automate these processes.
Here are some things you’ll do:
- Work closely with the Payroll Operations team on to process accurate pay for employees.
- Own day to day payroll operations, such as processing semi-monthly payroll for employees in US and Canada, contractor payments, off-cycle payrolls and bonuses.
- Provide support to the Operations and People team during open enrollment.
- Provide support to employees for questions regarding earnings, deductions, PTO, and benefits.
- Prepare reports to relevant internal teams.
- Stay up to date with local and state tax requirements and update the payroll system as needed.
- Work closely with our payroll provider to ensure a smooth process.
- Maintain and update our internal payroll process manual.
- Continue to optimize business processes.
- Build relationships with relevant providers, brokers, and other partners and schedule meetings as necessary.
You should also:
- Have a BA/BS or a background you feel is equivalent.
- Familiarity with payroll processes and systems.
- Have a system for staying organized and a good head for numbers.
- Have a high level of integrity and the ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
- Identify as having good common sense.
- Enjoy optimizing processes and thinking about how to automate your job.
- Have a strong preference for working with great tools, and be comfortable working with or learning the tools we use (Mercury, Gusto, Abacus, Pilot, Middesk, Notion, Slack, etc.).
- Have diverse interests and enjoy learning about other people’s interests.
- Listen with patience, attention, and empathy.
- Have a sense of humor (doesn’t have to be a good one).
