Schedule
- Fully remote position
- Standard business hours with potential flexibility
- Salary range: $22–$24/hour (based on skills, experience, and location)
Responsibilities
- Respond to patient billing inquiries regarding statements, balances, insurance claims, and payment options via phone
- Process payments, including credit card transactions, online payments, and payment plans
- Assist patients with financial assistance applications as appropriate
- Clearly explain billing processes, insurance coverage, and payment options with empathy and professionalism
- Research and review EOBs for claim payments or denials to provide accurate responses
- Accurately document account notes, call summaries, and resolutions
- Process patient correspondence such as address updates, bankruptcy notices, and returned mail
- Liaise with collections to ensure balances, payments, or adjustments are accurately communicated
- Maintain or exceed department metrics for call handling, abandon rate, and response time
- Assist with other revenue cycle tasks, including contacting self-pay patients and emailing financial assistance forms
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years in a customer service role, preferably healthcare-related; remote work experience preferred
- High school diploma or GED
- Proficiency with medical billing software, insurance claim processes, Microsoft Office, and payment handling
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on empathy
- Ability to manage high-volume calls and meet performance metrics
- Knowledge of healthcare billing laws and HIPAA compliance
- Strong organizational and time management skills for independent remote work
- Must pass a background and credit check (due to financial responsibilities)
