This position is part of the Patient Financial Services Claims Team and is responsible for accurate claims submission to payers. The critical tasks of this position include validating claim edits, assessing billing codes, resolving payer door rejections, and staying within the billing regulatory and contractual guidelines.
This position is full-time, Monday – Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 8:00am – 4:30pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends.
We offer weeks of paid training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Paper mail Billing Specialists/Collections Rep plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely billing submission. Primary responsibilities include sorting through & mailing paper claims, investigating billing issues, correcting discrepancies, and assisting in maintaining the billing system. Researching returned claims. This role requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, Independently working onsite, and familiarity with spreadsheets.
- Engages in various operational responsibilities to support department and organization.
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written form, as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Assist departments with questions.
- Maintains current knowledge of organization’s policies and procedures. Adheres to governmental and industry specific regulations/laws. Maintains appropriate related documentation.
- Maintains and safeguards confidentiality of information, including patient, personnel, and organizational data/records.
- Provides excellent service with focus on patient and/or customer experience and ensures all functions related to customer service supports the department, member organization, and patient related goals.
- Adheres to a set of moral principles with an understanding of philosophical thought
- Identifies, pursues, and achieves previously established personal, team, and organizational goals
- Follows established procedures and standards to limit the spread of infection
- Attends and participates in meetings
- Works towards established performance indicators consistently
- Facilitates all functions related to patient accounts, including payment variance, billing, resolving balances, etc.
- Attends education sessions, workshops, and other continuing education opportunities to enhance or gain new skills

- Provides coverage for peers, subordinates, and leadership on an as needed basis
- Maintains thorough understanding of department’s key performance indicators and strives to achieve them
- Performs tasks according to established guidelines to ensure quality goals and standards are met

- Shares knowledge and serves as resource in a team environment
- Performs other duties as assigned or required
- Maintains a safe environment complying with NLH policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
- 1+ years of experience in billing claims/insurance (Medicaid, Medicare, Commercial Payers)
- Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work our normal business hours of 8:00am – 4:30pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of experience – Explanation of benefits
- 1+ years of experience in a related environment (i.e. office, administrative, clerical, customer service, etc.) using phones and computers as the primary job tools

- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.
