This is a people-lead + ops strategy role running Pie’s underwriting team for the partner channel. You’re accountable for SLA performance, risk decisions at the top level, training/SOP discipline, and scaling the team as Pie grows.

  • Base salary range: $110,000–$140,000

What You’ll Do

  • Lead underwriting operations to hit service levels (SLAs) and underwriting goals/OKRs
  • Be a top-level escalation point for UW questions and risk evaluations
  • Coordinate load balancing with other UW teams to meet SLAs
  • Coach underwriters and serve as a day-to-day sounding board
  • Oversee regular training; keep SOPs, product appetite, pricing models, and trends current
  • Act as the primary operational rep to channel/partner agents
  • Gather partner/internal feedback to improve conversion and operations
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to roll out new processes, product changes, or partner-specific initiatives
  • Provide reporting, benchmarking, and insights to leadership
  • Research competitor offerings and market trends
  • Manage people lifecycle: hiring, onboarding, performance, coaching plans, conflict management, offboarding
  • Help shape national/regional underwriting business plans and book management
  • Partner with Business Development leadership on retention and partner engagement

What You Need

  • High school diploma/GED (Bachelor’s preferred)
  • 6+ years commercial insurance experience
  • 2+ years leading a commercial UW team (or equivalent leadership)
  • Strong written/verbal communication
  • Advanced problem-solving and decision-making in complex situations
  • Ability to set productivity goals, plan headcount, and manage talent
  • Tools: G-Suite; Slack preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of rate making, book management, service metrics, and UW operations best practices
  • Strong analytics: interpret data and turn it into action
