If you’re the kind of Java engineer who cares about correctness, performance, and clean architecture (not just “it runs”), this role turns that obsession into impact. You’ll pressure-test advanced AI models with real Java engineering scenarios, verify technical accuracy, and document exactly where the model’s reasoning fails so it can be improved.

About Invisible Agency
Invisible supports companies by building scalable, high-quality operations. This freelance AI Trainer project improves AI model reliability through expert-led evaluations and high-quality training data, especially in technical domains.

Schedule
Remote (United States).
Contract / freelance.
Hours vary based on your availability (you’ll report average weekly hours).
You provide your own secure computer and high-speed internet. No company benefits (contractor role).

What You’ll Do

Challenge AI models with software engineering tasks and technical scenarios using Java
Evaluate outputs for correctness, performance, security, and code quality (clarity, maintainability, standards)
Identify and capture reproducible failure modes (bad assumptions, broken concurrency, leaky abstractions, weak security patterns, etc.)
Document error traces and suggest improvements to prompts, rubrics, and evaluation metrics
Contribute to raising the bar for what “good” Java engineering looks like in model outputs

What You Need

Strong professional Java experience (Core Java, OOP, collections, concurrency, exception handling)
Comfort with backend patterns and real systems work (RESTful APIs, services, database access, debugging)
Ability to assess architecture and tradeoffs (performance, memory, scalability, reliability)
Clear written communication and the habit of “showing your work” when diagnosing issues and proposing fixes
Bachelor’s/master’s/PhD in CS/SE (nice), or equivalent hands-on experience
Bonus signals: production incident ownership, open-source work, technical writing, cloud deployments

Benefits

Pay range: $8–$65/hour depending on experience, expertise, and location
Remote, flexible contract work
Direct impact: you improve how AI handles real engineering problems used by developers and teams

One blunt note: if your Java experience is mostly school projects or “I used Spring once,” this will be rough. If you’ve built/maintained production services and can explain why a design is good or dangerous, you’re the target.

Happy Hunting,
~Two Chicks…
