Schedule
- Location: Fully remote within the United States
- Employment type: Full-time
- Work environment: Independent, production-based coding in a home office setting
- Expectation: Regular, predictable attendance and comfort working on screens for most of the day
What You’ll Do
- Code inpatient encounters for one or more facilities using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCS
- Analyze medical records and abstract all required clinical information for accurate code sequencing
- Recognize critical care cases by patient acuity and capture all appropriate services
- Code surgical procedures in an ER or inpatient setting when applicable to support correct reimbursement
- Apply diagnosis and procedure codes to the highest level of specificity
- Interpret and apply official coding guidelines and payer rules to every case
- Understand how documentation impacts DRGs, revenue, and compliance, and flag issues when needed
- Meet or exceed ongoing productivity and accuracy standards of 95 percent or higher
- Communicate with clients and internal leaders in a clear, professional way
- Assist leadership with reporting as needed and support basic auditing tasks when requested
- Participate in company-provided training and education to keep skills current
What You Need
- Active coding credential from AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P)
- CCS strongly preferred for inpatient work
- At least 2 years of coding experience, including inpatient or multi-specialty facility exposure
- Advanced working knowledge of EMR and billing systems
- Current coding references, including CPT and ICD-10-CM
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook, including:
- Opening and updating spreadsheets and performing basic formulas
- Creating a simple pivot table
- Managing email and scheduling or attending online meetings
- Ability to work independently from home, manage your own workload, and hit deadlines
- Strong attention to detail, analytical judgment, and professional written and verbal communication
- Consistent, reliable work habits and comfort working in a focused, metrics-driven environment
