- Location: Remote within the United States
- Employment: Full time
- Work Environment: Home based, computer heavy, 6 to 8 hours a day in EMR and coding systems
- Structure: Independent, production based work with quality and accuracy benchmarks
What You’ll Do
- Review inpatient medical records and abstract all required data for correct ICD 10 CM, ICD 10 PCS, CPT and HCPCS code assignment
- Code across at least four specialties for one or more hospitals or facilities, primarily inpatient and related chart types
- Apply ICD 10 CM diagnosis codes to the highest level of specificity based on documentation
- Recognize critical care cases and appropriately capture acuity and additional revenue when supported
- Interpret and apply official coding guidelines, payer rules, and facility specific policies
- Identify documentation gaps that impact coding and reimbursement and understand how they affect DRGs and payment
- Maintain required productivity and quality standards, including at least 95 percent accuracy and 95 percent quality scores
- Communicate with clients and leadership in a professional manner and support reports or audit projects as requested
- Follow AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding, company policy, and all privacy and security rules for PHI
What You Need
- Active coding certification through AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS P)
- CCS credential strongly preferred for this inpatient role
- At least 2 years of recent inpatient or multi specialty facility coding experience
- Advanced working knowledge of EMR and billing systems
- Current coding references such as CPT and ICD 10 CM manuals
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook, including:
- Opening and updating spreadsheets, using basic formulas, and creating simple pivot tables
- Managing email, scheduling and attending meetings in Outlook
- Ability to work independently from home and meet ongoing productivity and accuracy goals
- Strong attention to detail, decision making skills, and professional written and verbal communication
