- Work involves reviewing outpatient medical records and coding with accuracy and consistency
What You’ll Do
- Assign diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS for moderate to high-complexity outpatient charts
- Review documentation to ensure complete and compliant coding in line with AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding
- Abstract facility-specific clinical information, including discharge dispositions
- Meet accuracy and productivity standards, with coding quality expected at or above 95%
- Stay current on coding guidelines, CMS directives, AHA Coding Clinic updates, and annual training requirements
- Communicate and resolve documentation or coding issues through physician queries and coordination with leadership
What You Need
- AHIMA or AAPC-approved coding credential (required)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a basic coding course including medical terminology and anatomy
- One year of outpatient medical record coding experience in an acute care setting preferred
- Strong proficiency in outpatient coding, CPT/HCPCS assignment, and E/M facility guidelines
- Ability to work accurately, independently, and with multiple software systems
