Schedule
- Full-time, fully remote position
- Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm EST
- Pay: $17–$18/hour
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze accounts with credit balances to determine the root cause
- Process refunds to patients, insurance companies, or other appropriate parties
- Collaborate with payers, billing teams, and internal departments to resolve discrepancies
- Ensure all refund and adjustment activities meet payer guidelines, policies, and regulations
- Accurately document all account actions in the system of record
- Resolve overpayments from duplicate payments, coordination of benefits, or billing errors
- Track refund requests through completion and follow up on delays or denials
- Identify trends and recurring credit balance issues for process improvement
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree preferred
- Minimum 2 years of healthcare billing or payment posting experience
- Knowledge of remittance processing, including EOBs, ERAs, and payer adjustments
- Familiarity with medical billing systems (Epic, Cerner, or similar) preferred
- Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reconciliation tools
- Experience in both hospital and professional billing environments
- Knowledge of denial management and payer remittance trends
- Posting accuracy of at least 97% and meeting daily volume targets ≥ 95%
- Ability to reconcile batches with ≤ 2% error rate
