🧾 About the Role
Thrivent is looking for a Payroll Compliance & Efficiency Specialist with a sharp eye for detail, deep knowledge of payroll regulations, and a proactive mindset. You’ll ensure our Workday payroll systems remain fully compliant across federal, state, and local levels. You’ll also partner with HR, Legal, and Finance teams to drive efficiency and accuracy in payroll processes across a complex, nationwide workforce—all while enjoying the flexibility of remote work.


Position Snapshot
• $34.86–$47.16/hr (depending on location and experience)
• 100% remote (U.S. only)
• Full-time | Human Resources Department
• Backup responsibilities for payroll processing and audits


📌 Key Responsibilities
• Monitor and maintain compliance within Workday’s payroll setup across multiple states
• Identify and implement changes in response to evolving tax laws and payroll regulations
• Collaborate with HR, Benefits, Legal, and Compensation teams to drive updates
• Support audits, investigate discrepancies, and improve processes
• Develop training materials and educate team members on payroll compliance
• Document changes and ensure accurate recordkeeping for audits (e.g., SOC reports)
• Serve as backup for payroll processing and auditing functions


🎯 Ideal Qualifications
Required:
• CPP or FPC certification (or equivalent knowledge)
• Strong grasp of federal, state, and local payroll laws
• Multi-state payroll experience
• Experience using Workday payroll platform
• Analytical thinker with problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Ability to manage competing priorities independently

Preferred:
• Background with statutory employees
• Hands-on payroll tax experience
