🧾 About the Role
Symetra is hiring an Asset Modeling Actuary II to lead key initiatives in asset and liability modeling for retirement products. In this role, you’ll focus on VM-21 and VM-22 modeling and work closely with corporate ALM teams to ensure compliance, profitability, and long-term solvency. You’ll have direct exposure to senior leadership and may mentor junior actuaries as the team grows.

📋 What You’ll Own
• Lead integration of asset models with liability projections under VM-21 and VM-22
• Develop investment strategies to support fixed indexed annuities
• Analyze regulatory/accounting changes (e.g., NAIC, GAAP LDTI) and model impacts
• Act as SME for Fixed Indexed Annuities and hedging strategies
• Ensure models comply with regulatory and audit standards
• Document assumptions, controls, and methodologies for audit-readiness
• Mentor junior actuarial analysts and collaborate cross-functionally
🎯 Must-Have Traits
• FSA designation required
• 5+ years of actuarial experience (typically 7+ years preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree with strong quantitative background
• Experience with BondEdge, Intex, or similar asset modeling software
• Deep understanding of complex asset classes and reserve valuation
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Ability to work independently and solve multi-layered actuarial problems
