What You’ll Do Here:

The Content Data Manager plays a critical role in facilitating Cengage’s timely and accurate contributor payments, for both author narrative work and licensed content. In this role, you will work cross-functionally to set up and maintain deals in Cengage’s royalty and intellectual property data systems. You will manage sales data inputs into the royalty system and work quickly to resolve royalty issues across multiple contributor accounts. You will also manage data through Cengage’s licensed content acquisition process which includes data input, quality assurance and issue resolution.

This high visibility role includes promptly resolving unprocessed sales, analyzing sales and IP data for errors, and managing all necessary prior period adjustments. You will ensure the timely addition of new publishing agreements to the royalties’ system and the IP systems, as well as assisting in the testing of all future software enhancements. This position supports the wider Content Data Operations team and will play a critical role in gathering, synthesizing, and analyzing content data to resolve author, publisher, and rights holder inquiries, complete account audits, and review contributor payments.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for accurate, complete, and timely deal setups in Cengage’s royalties and Intellectual Property systems
  • Process contract amendments efficiently to ensure sales and licensed content payments are processed within the correct royalty accounting period
  • Maintain auditable documentation for all changes made to royalty system
  • Participate in testing royalties and intellectual property system upgrades, improvements, and modifications
  • Audit existing royalty deals, intellectual property data and contracts to ensure set-up accuracy
  • Analyze royalty reports to identify potential errors in reporting and deal setups
  • Critically analyze royalty deal setups to anticipate impact of deal updates
  • Review and analyze royalty calculation data to ensure payments are accurate and on time
  • Prepare and import manual sales upload files into royalties’ system
  • Develop expert knowledge of internal systems, practices, policies, product team needs, and strategic direction. Communicate with Author/Publisher Relations, Legal, Technology, Finance, and Accounting to understand and meet those stakeholders’ needs for royalty and IP data maintenance
  • Work in a team of Content Data Managers. Attend regular team meetings and contribute to best practices, training, and information sharing across team
  • Develop and offer royalty and intellectual property systems expertise in critical variance analyses
  • Gather and synthesize relevant data from the systems to develop actionable recommendations
  • Capture and communicate findings within broader project structure; maintain healthy project management, coding, and workflow practices

Skills you will need here:

  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 3 years of equivalent experience in a professional role performing similar work
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel
  • Exhibits initiative and ability to work effectively while possessing the ability to take responsibility over own workload
  • Very strong attention to detail with proven ability to manage multiple priorities and a large volume of work
  • Ability to contribute constructively to a team-oriented environment with rapidly changing priorities and time pressures
  • Outstanding reading comprehension, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment where overtime hours can be needed to meet deadlines

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Mathematics, or analytics
  • Proficiency with royalty software, general ERP system and reporting software (Alliant, JD Edwards, Data Warehouse)
  • Experience in reading and understanding contracts
