🧾 About the Role
WVU Medicine is hiring a Certified Oncology Data Specialist to support cancer registry operations through accurate case collection, coding, and quality reviews. This remote, part-time role is ideal for credentialed professionals who thrive on precision and want to make a meaningful contribution to oncology care and compliance.


Position Highlights
• Remote, part-time (8 hours/week)

📋 What You’ll Own
• Identify and abstract cancer cases using national and state guidelines
• Extract, code, and validate patient data from EMRs and external records
• Maintain staging accuracy using AJCC, STORE, SEER, SSDI, and NCCN guidelines
• Conduct follow-up, quality checks, peer audits, and CoC compliance reviews
• Participate in special studies, data analysis, and cancer committee meetings
• Help maintain a 90%+ accuracy threshold for data integrity
• Generate reports on trends, treatment outcomes, and survival metrics


🎯 Must-Have Traits
• Associate degree required
• Active ODS-C (Oncology Data Specialist – Certified) credential
• 2+ years of abstracting experience (preferred)
• RHIT, RHIA, or RN credentials are a plus
• Familiar with staging schemas, medical terminology, and oncology treatment
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and analytical thinking
• Able to navigate multiple EMR and registry platforms
• Comfortable with independent work and collaborative meetings
